When you wake up each morning, take a moment to think about the kind of life you want to have.
Consciously choose to have a happy life.
A life that is filled with love, laughter, good health and success.
Then begin your day focused on the things you can do to make this your reality.

Be silly.
Be fun.
Be different.

Be you, because life is too short to be anything but happy.

Some of the kindest souls I know have lived in a world that was not so kind to them.
Some of the best human beings I know have been through so much at the hands of others.
And they still love deeply.
And they still care.

Sometimes, it’s the people who have been hurt the most who refuse to be hardened in this world, because they would never want to make another person feel the same way they have felt.
If that isn’t something to be in awe of, I don’t know what is.

Some things we can let go of in the moment.
We can shift our perspective or have curiosity rather than judgement.
We can choose to be happy rather than needing to show we’re right.
We can change how we’re breathing affecting how we’re feeling.
We can walk it off.
We can check in at the end of the day and let go.
Notice where we missed an opportunity and choose not to carry it into tomorrow.

Some other things take time to process.
Some things are buried deep where we stored them.
Some things are not quite ready.
Sometimes we’re comfortable in our pain because it’s what we know.
And sometimes we think we’ve healed something only to revisit it later on a deeper level.

We always need to be gentle with ourselves and compassionate when it’s taken us longer than we wanted to let it go.
Practice patience, trust the process.

Good health is something all the riches in the world can’t buy.
Take good care of yourself and count your blessings.
Be thankful you woke up today because not every day is guaranteed.
I spent so long taking my god-given health for granted that I forgot how blessed I am to be alive today.
Our body is our temple.
Treat it like your sanctuary.

Do something good for your body today.
Go for a run or a hike or a gym or take a yoga class.
But most importantly, be grateful for the life you’re living today.
The greatest wealth is health.

People spend so much time trying to be more physically attractive to find love that they forget the importance of being mentally attractive.

Educate yourself.
Address your recurring toxic thoughts.
Deal with your insecurities and learn to be happy on your own.
That’s attractive.

Being close to me is a privilege.
If I cut you off, clearly that means you lost that privilege.

So don’t lurk.
Don’t check on me.
None of that.
Keep that distance.
Stay on the other side of that fence.

As for honoring emotions, I’ve always said “you need to allow yourself to feel what you feel”.
Don’t push feelings away or tell yourself you’re not allowed to feel sad, happy etc.
You are allowed to feel.
Your emotions are valid.
But you also need to learn how to deal with them.
Try to figure out why you are feeling the way you are and then move forward from there.

When you’re happy, truly let yourself be happy.
When you’re sad, let yourself be sad as well.
But then know when it’s time to heal and move forward.
And I know this can be hard and it’s something I’m still working on.

Value yourself.
Express yourself.
Honour your feelings.
Work on becoming a legit version of who you are.
Be a shameless authentic version of yourself.

Real life is so much more interesting than anything you will see on social media.
So please, just put down your phone and pick up your head.
Be present with the human beings you spend your time with, be present with yourself, be present with the world.
Don’t forget to live because you think you’re living through your phone.
Trust me when I say “real life is the feeling you get when you support your friends and see them doing the things that make their cells dance”.

Real life is 8am, wrapped within the limbs of someone who makes your stomach feel like it is buzzing with an electric kind of happiness.
Real life is sitting with yourself, in all of your depth and your decay, and not distracting your mind from all that is seeking to be felt within you.
Real life is gritty, it breaks you open, and it is meant to weather you in the most beautiful and meaningful ways, but you will miss all of that if you are looking down.
Always choose to look up.
