Self-care isn’t just holidays and massages. Self-care is working on your habits. Self-care is working on your mindset. Self-care is healing your past. Self-care is discarding toxic thoughts from your head. Self-care is removing toxic people from your life. Self-care is erasing toxic places from your memory lane.
Self-care is living intentionally. Self-care is living purposefully. Self-care is living consciously.

Someone fell in love today. Someone was born today. Someone lived through something that could have killed them. Someone won back the love of their life. Someone made their parents proud. Someone survived. Someone healed. Someone let go.
Eight billion people, and some of us have just had the best day of their lives. Today may have been the very worst day of yours. But take solace and celebrate this simple fact. It wasn’t your best day today, but it is on it’s way, because we all get lucky in turn. Life is fun. Let it be.
Instead of feeling like you’re behind, feel grateful for any setbacks you’ve had in your life and each lesson you have learned along the way. Be grateful for each relationship and what you were able to learn about yourself through falling in and out of love. Feel proud of how strong you have become from each time you were left to put the pieces of your broken heart back together. Be grateful that you learned that you will heal again no matter what you go through.
You should be proud that you learned how to recognize and move on from situations that are no longer good for you. You might feel like you are behind, but when you really think about it, everything you have been through has made you the person you are now. Your experience is your strength, and you shouldn’t wish to change that for anything.
There is nothing wrong with slowness. All around you in nature, a billion different things move at a slow pace, just as they are supposed to. No flower is rushing to be somewhere else. No wave is pushing it’s way to the shore before its time. Even when the rain pours down quickly, it took time for that level of force to build up.
I hope you continue to crave change, healing, and transformation and I also hope you remember the soil beneath your feet. The sun shining above you. The wind blowing around you. This is change, too. This is meaningful, too.
Let this season be what this season needs to be. Let it shape you how it needs to shape you. Trust: you don’t have to spend every moment worried about your growth to know that you are still becoming who you were meant to be. There is no need to worry. You’re growing even when you’re not thinking about it. (Not my words.)
You can be high-functioning, and still be depressed. You can appear confident, and still suffer from anxiety. You can laugh and seem happy, and still be depressed. You can make progress in your healing, and still feel the weight of the trauma. You can have it all together, and still feel empty inside.
Be gentle with yourself and others. Everyone is going through something.
There’s nothing more beautiful than a kind empathetic heart which can feel the same for others as much as for yourself.
