Sunday story time.. 01.

Since my childhood i am that odd one out kinda person in my family. My family is a mixture of different values/culture/faith/religion. And i always feel bored when someone talks about religion or God. It’s my middle school days i remember, one of my friends named Mohsin said “he is a true muslim, because he is praying 5 times a day & he is fasting during EID”. The same way another christian friend Lukas said “he follows everything from easter, saint patrick’s day, thanksgiving, christmas to sunday mass because he is a believer in ONE TRUE CHURCH catholic values/teachings”. All such things were just foolish to my middle school brain. My middle school & high school days were all about playing chess, basketball, some video games, playing piano, little bit of painting, if i had too much free time i was teaching trigonometry & physics to few of my dumb friends. I never understood religion & God.

Let’s come to the main part of the story. My religion is Hindu. And both of my parents are full time employees & they are also bit too much into social service because finances are sorted. So during my childhood i got plenty of time to spend with my grandparents.
Out of curiosity once i asked my grandpa;
“All my friends say something about their God or religion. Is there a process to be a true or good hindu?”
First he laughed at me for 2 minutes, then he replied;
“You become a good human, that’s a good hindu”.
I again asked;
“Which specific God to pray & what’s the prayer i have to chant?”
He again laughed at me, then replied;
“There are literally 33 million avatars of God in our religion, even i am confused. Right now finish your homework & studies, eat all vegetables without being a pain to your mama, don’t watch TV for long time, sleep before 9pm, wake up early in the morning, these are all your duties/responsibilities at this age, after few years your work/job will become your identity. And your work is your best worship to your God.”
That’s all i was taught about religion. My grandpa died at the age of 97+. I still remember every single moment i spent around him.

Some friends question why i attend church service sometimes even though i am not a Christian!! The answer is; There was a church on my way to school. Father of that church used to give free teacakes to every kid after morning prayer. Sometimes i used to eat that teacake while going to school, and sometimes i used to give it to any homeless or disabled person near my street/hospital area.
These tiny memories are still alive in me. I work & i make little more money than i can consume even after my share of savings+investment, i try to give it back to the society from where i earned. That’s why sometimes it’s a visit to any orphanage, community shelter/home & sometimes also it’s a sunday service. It’s not like I don’t believe in God, it’s more like “I DON’T BELIEVE IN DIFFERENT RELIGIONS HAVE DIFFERENT GODS SUPERIORITY SYNDROME”. If there’s a GOD, there’s only one who lives inside your goodness.

The gist of the story is; Do something good everyday or just do your work/duty/responsibilities on time, rest assured your GOD loves you.

There’s this one superstition almost everyone of us practices without realising; “Saying bless you when someone sneezes”. Telling someone bless you after a sneeze is a quick reflex that many people possess this superstition. It’s customary to respond to a sneeze so much so that if you fail to bless someone, they may get offended.

But why are we so compelled to say these words to anyone who sneezes? Well, there are a few superstitious theories on why the sneeze specifically calls for a bless you. The most popular began in Rome when the Bubonic plague ravaged the population and one of the symptoms of the disease was sneezing. Pope Gregory the first belief that saying “God bless you” after a sneeze what protect people from Death. There is another theory that stems from ancient history, It used to be believed that a sneeze could accidentally expel someone’s Spirit from their body. Fortunately God could prevent it with the small blessing. Others believed that sneezes expelled unwanted evil spirits. This was good for the sneezer, but it put others at risk. So blessing everyone around was the safety.

(I too say BLESS YOU when someone sneezes, it’s fun & i feel it’s one more way to send some good vibes to other person.)

Most people think their love for their religion or nationalism is unique. About religion I will talk some other day. But let me share today why i find current trend of nationalism stupid yet funny!!

You are born at a specific part of the world. Of course you have to stay loyal to your motherland. But how? You are loyal to your nation by paying your taxes in time, behaving well to your fellow citizens, be nice & welcoming to everyone no matter whether they are born in your country or coming from some other part of the world in search of a better tomorrow. That’s how real nationalism should be. Most modern countries were created after few people migrated & named it their home. We survive today not because of nationalism, but because of “we as humans were in search of right opportunities and right society/surrounding to build that opportunity”.

Let’s talk about current trends of nationalism, i should say TOXIC NATIONALISM. When i see “AMERICA FIRST”, “CHINA FIRST”, “INDIA FIRST” & later that’s followed by “GOD BLESS AMERICA” or any other country’s name in that bold italic place, I laugh at it without a second thought. Because everyone talks something against the other one to prioritise their own nation. Which later spreads hate & violance for nothing. This doesn’t reflect your love for your country. Just imagine JESUS is back to this world again. What he should do with this same ideology? He must embrace his middle eastern livelihood, then go back to his motherland Bethlehem & bless Palestine first to become the richest most powerful country in this world. Thank God, your beloved God is not alive to see such nonsense. Humans are mediocre in so many ways, this is the best worst one. In case you get the joke, i appreciate your time.

God helps those who help themselves.

(Most of the time you see people spreading this message as a quote from bible. Some also say it’s against God’s grace. This reference is found in Bible, Quran & Jewish teachings as well. The fun part is, they all are wrong about it’s origin. It’s a motto/phrase originated from ancient greece way before any major religion was born. This quote emphasizes on importance of self-initiative efforts.)

Focus on your work, because your work is your responsibility & identity.

We live in a world where people have very little amount of confidence, faith, belief, moral, knowledge & humor. You can offend anyone with bare minimum effort. It’s laughable to see who flex about their GOD being the greatest in universe also get offended with a moron’s few words against their almighty. For an example; if your GOD is that kinda powerful, neither he gives a fuck about a hater’s hate or he hardly cares about an overenthusiastic follower’s defence to save his grace.

Work towards being a better you. Accept humans for their Humanity, that’s were all it began. One thing which can straighten it all is a stable sorted healthy level of self confidence. If you believe in something, do it for yourself rather than your efforts towards proving it to others.

I am not interested in religion or any such matter related to GOD. Correction, actually I kinda believe in GOD but I struggle to believe there are different GODS for different religions. There is definitely something/someone positive guiding us from somewhere. If there is a GOD, he is around us or within us.

I also believe there is no such thing called heaven up above, or else we might have seen it already while traveling in flight or our satellites might have spotted in space near international space station. This EARTH is our heaven or name it hell if you want, we have to work towards making it what we want. We are what we believe & what we create.

God has given you a life & your parents have given you an identity, you got one chance to shine or whine. Few people may suggest there is an afterlife, but I am a strong believer of Karma. Your hell & heaven both exist in this planet looking at your deeds. Never do something which may hurt others purposefully. Always remember to cherish what you have in life and you will feel fulfilled. If you look at what you don’t have, you will never have enough.

Life has nothing “meant to be” in it, it’s all how you perceive. Go & do everything that’s within your capabilities, yes you got one shot.

Never ever feel like GOD isn’t answering your prayers. Focus on building a stronger FAITH in you about yourself. Your almighty sees, you already got enough tools to make shit happen.

Returned from airport. Invited by a nearby church for distributing blankets to homeless. Earned some smile & goodwill. I don’t associate myself with GOD or RELIGION, but I believe your belief.
